Dragons Abreast Illawarra (DAI) - PINKS

FRIENDSHIP. FITNESS. FUN.

Dragons Abreast Illawarra is a vibrant and supportive community of breast cancer survivors, their families, and friends—brought together through the empowering and uplifting sport of dragon boating.

Formed in 2002 after the inaugural Shellharbour Festival of Sport Regatta, we’ve been paddling with purpose ever since. In 2009, we became an incorporated group, and with growing interest from other paddlers, we also launched the Illawarra Dragon Boat Club Inc—open to anyone with a passion for paddling.

Our group is all about health, wellbeing, and friendship after a breast cancer diagnosis. We welcome members of all ages, fitness levels, shapes, and backgrounds—whether you're here for fun, fitness, or connection.

Whether you’ve had a breast cancer diagnosis yourself or want to support someone who has, you’ll find a place with us.

We’d love to meet you at one of our Pink Paddle sessions, held on the first Saturday of each month at the Illawarra Rowing Centre in Warrawong. After paddling, we gather for a friendly morning tea—and everyone is welcome. Want to join us? Simply call 0490 789 972 to register your spot.

What we do

On the water:

  • We paddle regularly on the beautiful waters of the Illawarra region.
  • Some members enjoy paddling recreationally; others compete at state and international dragon boating events.
  • We’ve represented Dragons Abreast Australia at regattas around the world—from Auckland and Vancouver to Florence and Hamilton, NZ. And in 2026, we’re off to France!

Off the water:

  • We participate in a wide range of local community events and fundraisers.
  • You’ll find us at fashion parades, photo exhibitions, morning teas, community walks, craft stalls, and more.
  • We’ve supported causes like Relay for Life, the Pink Bun Campaign, and International Women’s Day.

We’ve also been proudly recognised with awards:

  • Healthy Cities Award (2005)
  • Rise & Shine Environmental Award (2023)
